Letter to Birth Parents

Kim & Shawn, Atlanta Aquarium, June 2009

 Our dear friend:

We respect your courage as you make the decisions before you.  We know these choices are difficult, and we deeply admire your desire to do what is best for your baby.  Please know that our faith and prayers are with you; we know that God will guide you as you make your decisions.  We are grateful that you have chosen to look at our profile as you consider your options.

Even before we were married, we both wanted to add children to our family through adoption.  Both of us have siblings who were adopted and we know from firsthand experience that adoption is a wonderful way to increase the love in a family.  However, after we had been married for five years, we learned that adoption would be the only way that children would come to our family.  We look forward to welcoming children into our family.

Kim:  Growing up, my siblings and I were always close and we continue to be.  It has been such fun seeing them welcome children into their families and to enjoy my many nieces and nephews.  Unfortunately, my older brother and his family live in another state; but thankfully they are close enough that we can see each other regularly.  I love having the rest of my family close by, and we hold Family Home Evening with my extended family on a weekly basis.  Next to Shawn, my sister is my best friend and it is wonderful to go on double-dates with her and her husband.  I also love being able to spend time with my nephews and nieces and seeing them grow.  I am grateful that our children will have grandparents, aunt, uncles, and cousins nearby to play with and love them.

Being married to Shawn is the greatest blessing in my life and I am so thankful that we are blessed to have an eternal marriage.  No matter what we are doing, whether it is just hanging out to watch a movie or TV, out enjoying nature (sometimes with our dogs), on a date, or just shopping for groceries, we love spending time together.  I could not have designed a more wonderful companion and marvel daily at my fortune for having such a kind, loving, intelligent, and righteous man as my husband.  I love to watch him play with my newest nephews and niece.  He is going to be such a magnificent father!

I am very much looking forward to being a stay at home mom and to be able to educate and help our children reach their fullest potential in every way.  I am grateful to have received a bachelor’s degree and feel strongly about the importance of a good education.  I hope to foster a love of reading and learning in our children.  I love to teach and have had many opportunities to do so in church.  Currently, I am enjoying serving in our church’s primary organization as the music leader.

Shawn:  I was blessed to grow up in a wonderful family.  The kind of parent I want to be is the kind of parents I have.  They supported me in Scouting and in hobbies; they spent time with me talking about life – what they had done in theirs and what I wanted to do in mine.   I am incredibly lucky to have great in-laws.  The time we spend together is always a highlight and I look forward to our children and theirs growing up together.

Simply stated, Kim is my best friend.  We talk about everything from languages and society to movies, books and more (yeah…we are a little nerdy, but don’t let that fool you; we like the outdoors, too).  I just love spending time with my wife.  She is witty, brilliant, understanding and a wonderful woman.

I look forward to our family home evenings with our future children and to helping them grow in the gospel.  I look forward to being with my children in their tough times, as well as in their good ones.  I love education (I am a teacher) and look forward to helping our children to learn and grow (and towards spending all kinds of extra time with them during the summer).  Having the opportunity to raise a family with such a wonderful wife as Kim is one of the greatest blessings I will ever have.

Thank you so much for taking the time to review our profile.  We hope that you will feel free to contact us with any questions you might have.  God bless you in your decisions!
